Materials required: 6mm or 8mm mild steel plates
Finish: Bitumen or epoxy
Capacity ranges from 5000 litres to 80000 litres
They are mostly underground fuel storage tanks, storing fuel products, among them are petrol, diesel and liquified petroleum gas. They are made from 6 to 8 millimeters of steel sheets.
As per customer requirements, they can be single shell or double shell.
Having the tanks underground saves on much needed space while offering protection from fire hazards.
The tanks have to be durable hence the choice of steel thickness and treatment or coating of tanks prior to installation underground and the tests they are subjected to after fabrication and before delivery.
Construction process involves rolling the steel plates and dishing. The rolled plates are welded and weld-tested. A pressure test is carried out to detect any leakage. Complete tanks are then coated with epoxy tar to prevent entry of water which could cause corrosion of steel thereby compromising structural integrity and causing leakage.
Underground tanks can be used for:
Petrol Stations
Reservoirs for generators
Bulk chemical storage
Waste water treatment plants
Design specifications:
